Here is my Halloween themed painting I'll be putting in the gallery at Nelvana this week :)
& some of the reference/texture material I used to create it. See if you can find all the textures in the painting:)
The story behind the painting I was thinking was the three monsters decide to go trick or treating for the first time after they try some candy for the first time and love it. They are not impressed when they receive the fruit at first, but maybe that becomes their candy of choice ?
I don't really have time to do a background for it at the moment but maybe in the future :)
Thanks to my pal Dean Outschoorn who helped me come up with the apple idea.
Happy Halloween ! & don't forget to have those apples ready...I mean candy!

Genndy Tartakovsky Q&A post Hotel Transylvania
Genndy Tartakovsky Masterclass
Butch Hartman Keynote speaker
I attended the TAC portion of the festival for the first time, it was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone interested.
One of the highlights was the Genndy Tartakovsky "masterclass". I have always enjoyed his work and it was great to finally see and hear from him in person. Prior to the festival I didn't know who he was, I new his work of course Dexters Lab, Samurai Jack and more, ...but I now know the name.
He offered words of wisdom something along the lines of "with your work have a strong vision, Believe (in that vision), and continue to grow and develop as an artist."
here are a couple of links to a few artists I was able to meet:

This past summer my wife and I traveled to New York City for a mini vacation. These are some of my sketches from touring Central Park. It was a beautiful summer day.

This is a little animation from a contract I did for Yabsta.com, a few months ago. The design was already done, I just animated it :) as well as early sketches just exploring ideas with the monster.
This animation went with the contact info for the company.

So I was fortunate to get to check out the Tim Burton exhibit here in Toronto yesterday. It was amazing to see his early creations and his concept art from Black Cauldron... none of which was used in the final film.
One thing I took away from the experience was the number of different mediums Burton uses to express his creativity from poetry, to sculpting to varieties of pencils and paints... I guess that's what an artist does... creation & experimentation.
I recommend the exhibit to anyone.
Anyway after viewing his collection of works I had to get a pen and create something. so post exhibit we went across the street for a few drinks, while waiting for Batman Returns to start... here are a couple of sketches on some good ole fashioned restaurant napkins, with a little added color.

This is a tribute piece to all the sweet Grandmothers out there, who bake cookies, and carry lots of sweets in their purse.
Somethn' about her reminds me of Mrs.Doubtfire?
It started as a sketch.. then turned into a painting.
I used 4 different textures I found on google images, and then just made the layer they were on, into multiply. which makes it semi transparent. As well as texture brushes.

I just got back home from an amazing weekend at the 2nd annual CTN expo. (or as my wife says "the nerd convention" pshh! o.k.. well maybe a little :)
I attended some great seminars, and got to meet some of the world's finest talents.
So inspiring, educational, exhausting,& yet refreshing!
I also got to meet & thank the founder and organizer of the event; Tina Price, for putting an event like this together.
Hopefully it will offer the same elements and even more next year. I would encourage anyone who couldn't make it this year to do your best for the next one.
Meeting artists that share similar passions & dreams was pretty amazing.
